DAVID R. MICHAELSON
Mr. Michaelson is one of the two founding principals of the dynamic and growing Commercial Construction Company Marion Construction, Inc. based in Arlington, Virginia. With more than 27 years of construction experience working for a diverse group of clients like Manulife, Charles E. Smith, Fox Architects and American University to name a few, Mr. Michaelson has grown his new firm to over 10 million in volume in less than three years.
He began his career in construction in the Not-for-Profit Housing industry working on low and moderate income single-family projects and multi-family residents in the inner city of Washington, D.C. and Chicago. In 1986 he began a construction career in the Commercial Contracting industry when he went to work for HITT Contracting (Washington D.C.'s 4th largest General Contractor) where he worked for more than 18 years. In his tenure at HITT he helped them grow from a volume of 22 million to 650 million serving as a Senior Vice President of their Data Center market sector, prior to leaving in 2004 to create his own firm Marion Construction Inc.
In 1998 he began to focus his interest in “Green Buildings” by working with the founding group of individuals who would go on to form the first board of directors for the National Capital Region USGBC local Chapter. He severed on the local National Capital Board of Directors for the USGBC for four years as a director and chairman. Currently he is serves as the NCR representative to the Northeast Regional Council of the USGBC. In his business he his passion for green buildings has recently resulted in Marion Construction Inc being awarded the Construction Management Service contract to create the first ever "Living Building" in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area for the Alice Ferguson Foundation. Mr. Michaelson is a LEED accredited professional and Green Advantage Certified and Green Advantage Trainer.
