DON OVERTON
J. Don Overton is an attorney and private consultant to the construction industry in Arkansas. Mr. Overton has served as an outside counsel to several small to midsize construction and architecture firms in Arkansas, and has also worked as an adjunct professor in the Construction Management program at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UALR). Mr. Overton was a member of the inaugural class for the USGBC (United States Green Building Council) Green Advantage certification program for the State of Arkansas.
Before deciding to start his own consulting firm Mr. Overton oversaw all Financial and Legal aspects of BSI Construction in Arkansas. Mr. Overton oversaw all aspects of Green Certification / Value Engineering for every project undertaken by BSI, including, but not limited to Site Location and Building Design. Mr. Overton served as a functional “Green Liaison” between the members of the design team (Architects/Engineers) and the Project Owner to aid with the overall “Green Design” of each project at hand.
J. Don Overton has over 18 years of experience in: (1) General Construction, (2) Governmental Contracts and Procurement, (3) Real Estate Financing and Acquisition, (4) Construction Administration, (5) Environmental Reclamation and Municipal Recycling, (6) Corporate Governance and Human Resources, (7) Corporate Financing and Accounting, and (8) Construction / Real Estate Law.
Mr. Overton began his road to GREEN at Auburn University with a Bachelor of Science in Finance/Accounting with a minor in Real Estate and Architecture. After a short stint selling Real Estate in Atlanta he moved to Denton, Texas to attend UNT (University of North Texas) for a Masters Degree in Environmental Ethics and Public Administration. While living in Denton Mr. Overton implemented and successfully ran a city wide recycling program that grew to include TEN (10) drop off centers along with curbside recycling to every home in the city of Denton. After 6 years in Texas he decided advance his career and moved to Little Rock, Arkansas to attend Law School at The Bowen School of Law at UALR. After arriving in Little Rock in 1998, Mr. Overton was persuaded by the CEO of a local construction company to attend the Construction Management Program at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. In 2001 he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Construction Management, and in 2005 he received his Juris Doctorate from The Bowen School.
