THOMAS CROW

Tom is a senior project manager with the Real Estate Services Department of Mecklenburg County. He is responsible for Capital Reserve projects for the government facilities, and assists with maintenance and operations decisions. In addition, he acts as the energy coordinator for the county’s Environmental Leadership Team, making him responsible for energy reductions in county operations. The combined role works well, as the capital reserve projects give him a platform for incorporating energy savings strategies into building repair and replacement projects. A LEED AP since 2001, Tom has had the good fortune to be involved with some of the earlier LEED projects in North Carolina, and has been involved in sustainable design projects as far away as Las Vegas.

With a BS in Mechanical Engineering from West Virginia University, Tom’s first energy audit was done as a senior project. Prior to Mecklenburg County, Tom had 26 years experience in design, project management, and corporate management with engineering and construction firms. His projects have included comfort HVAC with a focus on energy and IAQ, process HVAC including clean rooms, and industrial process improvement projects with a basis in improving environmental impact.

Formerly a project and department manager for an ENR top 500 engineering firm, as well as department and office manager for a firm focused on sustainable design, Tom was president of his own firm. In addition to USGBC Charlotte Region Chapter, he is on the board of the Southern Piedmont chapter of ASHRAE, and a past chair of the Coastal Carolina chapter of ASME.
